Transforming healthcare and supporting economic development across Morocco & Africa.

We partner with health organizations, governments, and universities to build stronger systems, stronger institutions, and stronger people — combining global best practices with deep local insight.

Based in Morocco, working across Africa and the Arab world Founded and led by practitioners, not just advisors
Our approach

Global best practices. Local insight. Measurable results.

Too much technical assistance in the region arrives as a template and leaves as a PDF. We work the other way around: we start from what your institution actually looks like on a Tuesday morning, and we build from there.

  • Evidence over assumption — diagnostics grounded in your data, not regional averages.
  • Designed with, not for — your teams co-design the solution, so they own it after we leave.
  • Capability transfer built in — every engagement includes training so improvements outlast the contract.
  • Outcomes we can both see — clear indicators agreed at the outset, tracked to the end.
How we work

Three steps, no surprises

Diagnose

We listen first. A structured assessment of your operations, data, constraints and goals — with your team in the room.

Design

A costed, sequenced plan built around what is actually implementable in your context, with agreed success indicators.

Deliver & transfer

We implement alongside your staff and train as we go, so the capability stays when the engagement ends.

Have a challenge in health, employment, or education?

Tell us what you are trying to change. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right partner for it — and who might be, if we are not.

Healthcare Consulting

Elevating healthcare systems through expert consulting.

We partner with health organizations and health professionals across Morocco and Africa to build smarter, more efficient, and patient-centered healthcare systems — combining global best practices with local insight to drive measurable improvements in quality, access, and sustainability.

Our consulting solutions

Four areas where we make the difference

Each service can stand alone or combine into a broader system-strengthening program.

FAQ

Common questions

Both. We run short diagnostic assignments of a few weeks as well as multi-year system-strengthening programs. Small engagements are often the best way to test whether we are the right fit for each other.

We are based in Morocco and work across Africa. Our team operates in Arabic, French and English, which covers most of North, West and Central Africa without an interpreter layer between us and your staff.

Our team is made up of practitioners — a medical doctor and development professionals who have run programs, not only advised on them. We are on the ground in the region, our cost base reflects that, and capability transfer is part of the scope rather than an add-on.

Yes, and we recommend it. Most improvement plans fail on execution capacity rather than design. Pairing a consulting engagement with a targeted training program is usually the difference between a plan and a change.

Economic Development

Driving growth through workforce strategy and partnerships.

We partner with African governments to design and implement high-impact employment strategies, results-based financing programs, and public-private partnerships that stimulate job creation and economic growth.

What we deliver

Three levers for inclusive growth

Designed for ministries, agencies, development partners and private-sector consortia.

01

Employment & Skills Development Strategies

Analyzing labor markets to identify growth sectors, and developing youth employment programs and vocational training systems aligned with industry needs.

  • Labor market and value-chain analysis
  • Youth and women's employment program design
  • TVET and vocational system alignment with employer demand
  • Job placement and entrepreneurship support pathways
02

Public-Private Partnerships

Supporting economic growth and social service delivery through well-structured Public-Private Partnerships.

  • PPP feasibility, options analysis and risk allocation
  • Transaction structuring and procurement support
  • Contract design, KPIs and performance monitoring
  • Institutional capacity building for PPP units
03

Results-Based Financing Programs

Designing pay-for-performance models and outcome-focused funding mechanisms to enhance service delivery for social services.

  • Indicator and verification protocol design
  • Pricing, incentive and payment mechanism modelling
  • Independent verification and M&E frameworks
  • Transition support from input- to outcome-based funding
How we add value

Strategy that survives contact with implementation

Evidence-led design

Sector selection and program design grounded in real labor market data, not aspiration.

Youth & women at the centre

Programs built to reach the people most excluded from formal employment, by design.

Financing fluency

We speak the language of both public budgets and private capital, and can structure between them.

Monitoring & evaluation

M&E frameworks designed at the start, so results are measurable rather than asserted.

FAQ

Common questions

No. Governments are our primary counterpart for employment strategy and PPPs, but we also work with development partners, foundations, private operators and NGOs — often on the same program from different sides.

Our deepest expertise is in health and social services, but our employment and PPP work spans whatever sectors the labor market analysis points to — commonly agri-processing, renewable energy, tourism, digital services and care work.

Yes. We can stay engaged from feasibility through structuring, tender documentation and evaluation support, and then into contract monitoring once the partnership is operating.

It shifts payment from activities delivered to outcomes verified. Done well, it gives frontline providers autonomy and a reason to improve; done badly, it creates gaming and data distortion. The design of indicators and verification is where the work is, and that is where we focus.

Training & Capacity Building

Achieving healthcare excellence through adaptive training.

We empower healthcare professionals across Morocco and Africa with cutting-edge training programs that bridge the gap between knowledge and practice — combining evidence-based methodologies with hands-on learning to enhance clinical skills, leadership capabilities, and operational efficiency, ensuring sustainable impact at every level of care.

How we teach

Adaptive by design

Evidence-based methods

Content grounded in current clinical and management evidence, reviewed against local guidelines.

Hands-on learning

Simulation, case work and on-the-job practice rather than lecture-only formats.

Fits real rosters

Modules scheduled around shifts and service delivery, so training does not close the clinic.

Train-the-trainer

We build internal trainers so your institution can keep running the program without us.

Build a program

Training built around your gaps, not our catalogue

Send us your setting, staff mix and the problem you are trying to solve. We will propose a program scoped to what your teams can absorb while still running a service.

FAQ

Common questions

Arabic, French and English, including Moroccan Darija for community-facing programs. Materials are adapted rather than translated, which matters for community health worker content in particular.

Leadership and digital health tracks work well blended or fully remote. Clinical skills and community health worker programs need in-person practice for at least part of the program.

Participants receive a BSA certificate of completion with the competencies covered and hours delivered. Where formal accreditation is required, we work with your institution or the relevant professional body to align the program.

Pre- and post-assessment of knowledge and skills as a baseline, then agreed practice or service indicators where the data exists — documentation quality, protocol adherence, waiting times, referral appropriateness. We define these with you before the program starts.

FAQ

Studying in Morocco with BSA

No. Programs are taught in English unless a cohort requests otherwise. Our team works in Arabic, French and English, so site visits, interpretation and day-to-day logistics are handled for you.

It depends on the format. In faculty-led programs, your home university awards the credit and BSA co-designs and co-delivers the course. For BSA-designed courses, credit can be arranged either through your home institution or through one of our partner Moroccan universities. Practicums and internships are usually credited by the home institution as placement or fieldwork.

Get in touch with your subject area, target dates and approximate group size. We work backwards from your learning outcomes to build the itinerary, site visits and co-teaching plan, and we handle logistics on the ground in Morocco.

Yes — that is what the individual practicum and internship track is for. We match you to a Moroccan host organization in healthcare, sustainability or social business based on your background and objectives.

Dates are set with each partner university, so they vary. The Stay informed form is the most reliable way to hear about an upcoming cohort in time to apply.

Our Story

We are Bright, we are Square, we are in Africa.

Bright Square Africa was founded on a straightforward conviction: the expertise needed to strengthen African health systems and African economies already exists on the continent — it just needs to be organised, resourced, and taken seriously.

Why we exist

Across Morocco and much of Africa, the problems in health and employment are rarely mysteries. Ministries know where the bottlenecks are. Hospital directors know which department is losing money. Young people know the training on offer does not match the jobs available. What is usually missing is not insight — it is the capacity to convert insight into a costed, sequenced, implementable plan, and then to see it through.

Too often that gap gets filled by technical assistance flown in from elsewhere: expensive, generic, and gone before implementation begins. The diagnosis is competent, the recommendations are reasonable, and eighteen months later very little has changed on the ward or in the labour market.

The expertise needed to strengthen African systems already exists on the continent. Our job is to organise it, resource it, and stay long enough to see it work.

What "Bright Square" means

Bright is the ambition: rigorous analysis, current evidence, and genuine international standards — no discount version of quality because the work happens in Africa.

Square is the discipline: straight dealing, honest scoping, and clear indicators agreed at the outset. If we do not think an objective is achievable in the time and budget available, we say so before the contract is signed rather than after.

Africa is not the market — it is where we are. We live here, our team is from here, and we are still around when the program has to survive its second year.

Where we started

BSA was founded by Dr. Ayoub Lahlou, a medical doctor, international development consultant and health expert, who had spent years watching the same well-intentioned gap open between diagnosis and delivery. He was joined by Adnane Lahlou, whose work in entrepreneurship, international cooperation and program management brought the economic development and partnership side of the practice.

That combination — clinical and systems expertise on one side, economic development and program delivery on the other — is deliberate. Health outcomes and economic outcomes are not separate problems in this region, and the institutions that need help rarely have the luxury of treating them separately either.

How we work

  • Practitioners, not just advisors. Our team has run programs, not only evaluated them.
  • Local insight, global standards. We bring international best practice and then do the harder work of adapting it to what actually exists on the ground.
  • Capability transfer is in scope. Every engagement is designed to leave skills behind. That is why consulting and training sit in the same firm.
  • We work in your languages. Arabic, French and English, including Darija for community-facing work.
  • Measurable, or we do not claim it. Indicators are agreed at the start and tracked to the end.

Education as part of the mission

Our study abroad practice is not a side business. Bringing students from West Africa, the Arab world, the USA, Southeast Asia, China and Europe into Moroccan hospitals, renewable energy projects and social enterprises does two things at once: it gives them a far more honest education than a case study can, and it builds the long-term relationships between institutions that this region's development actually depends on.
